A relaxed and happy Molly

My newly acquired 10 month white shepherd bitch Molly is terrified of all other dogs. She had an infected bite mark and was extremely underweight when we got her a few weeks ago. Still trying to encourage her to eat more but is difficult.

She now gets on fine with my old lhasa apso dog.
I want her to be more outgoing and confident so that she can have fun. She is very gentle with our other animals but so timid. When we come home from walk she goes straight to bed.

I think I have been lied too about her background but wont get rid of her. I do want to help her though. If anyone has any ideas or tips I would really appreciate help. I have been told this could be a genetic defect but I refuse to believe this. thank you for looking regards carol

Terrified German Shepherd Puppy

Concerning the genetic issue, I really don't think that's the issue with your baby. Abuse or neglect of some sort seems much more likely.

What I can suggest is that you be patient with your dog and slowly socialize the pup with new things, new people, new places, etc. And if you get the chance I really would suggest that you get a good dog trainer to help you start socializing your GSD - and then in the future you can possible even participate in a full blown dog obedience class with other dogs.

It will take time but be patient and you'll be surprised how your dog turns around behaviorally speaking. Good luck!
