Harvey is my GSD, my friend and my protector

Hello. My name is Melanie and my German Shepherd is one of the best things to ever happen to me.

I rescued him from the San Diego German Shepherd rescue and though it has been way more work than I ever could have imagined, it has been way more joy as well. My Harvey is my dog, my friend and my protector.

He continues to mystify me. His level of intelligence is astounding and he learns most tricks within minutes. His favorite game is 'find it'.

We started this with treats and have now progressed to basically anything with a distinct scent. I hide treats, lemons, my medicine, his collar and he searches and searches until he succeeds.

I have gradually increased the distance and I am shocked at his capabilities. It's like he's saying "Aw Mom, that was so easy!". I don't think I realized how fantastic German Shepherd dogs are.

We go to the dog park, hiking, camping and run/walking... his gratitude is so sweet. The most difficult part of being a German Shepherd owner is finding new ways to challenge him.
