Drinking problem in German Shepherd

by Stacey

How do I get my GSD,Jericho to actually drink his water without dripping throughout my house? He will start to drink and then get distracted by something or someone and run to see what is going on...leaving a trail of water drops behind him.

I have laminate floor and i tend to slip on his water drops which never really bothered me until i became pregnant. Please help so I don't fall and Jericho can learn how to drink.

Thanks
Stacey

No Spill Dog Bowls
by: BeSmarter

Ya, this is definitely a universal big dog behavior, and yours isn't even the worse -- some dogs like to splash in their bowls with their paws or leave the bowl with a full mouth of water to distribute as they go.

On Amazon.com, if you search "no spill dog bowls" or something like that, you'll get a few brands designed to help with exactly this issue.

Dripping water

My gs does the same thing. He will run into the room where we are sitting and rub his mouth on us. Getting us all wet.

GSD Drinking problem
by: Debbie

That is not just a German Shepherd problem but a big dog problem in general. You can probably train him to stop this over time but it would take work - and time.

In the meantime I would suggest getting some large carpet remnants or something of that nature to put under your dogs water dish to hopefully stop some of the leakage on the floor or move your dogs water dish to another area where you have a tiled or linoleum floor - and not in such a high traffic area.

Good luck.
